MLB Opening Week Concludes, Showing Off Some New Stars and Veteran Breakouts

Opening week for MLB took place March 26th to April 2nd.  Rookies like JJ Wetherholt made impressive starts, showing a promising future. On the other hand, veteran players like Mike Trout still have it, showing a hopeful start to the season.

The Saint Louis Cardinals brought up JJ Wetherholt, a young second baseman who looked good in the minors for years. To start the season, Wetherholt hit his first major league home run, and followed it up with driving in the game winning run. According to MLB.com, “His impact has been felt since Day 1 of the regular season.”

Three time AL MVP Mike Trout for the Los Angeles Angels is starting off strong. Finally healthy, Mike Trout has started the season with a 1.007 OPS and seven home runs. Rhett Bollinger with MLB notes, “If he can stay on the field, he could be in for a monster year.”

Cape Juniors Madison Goodsell and Madison Rice both attended an early Phillies game. “It felt very uniting,” Goodsell said, mentioning the excitement and community of the season’s start. Madison Rice mentions Bryce Harper, who had a homer and an extra base hit, showing a reassuring start for Phillies fans.
