Science Fair Success

Cape Henlopen High School students made a strong impression at the 2026 Sussex County Science Fair, held on March 28 at Sussex Technical High School, where student scientists from across the county gathered to present innovative projects and compete for recognition. 

Among the standout participants were Cape Henlopen students Brenner Short and Grant Conway, who worked under the guidance of their teacher, Mr. Geppert. Conway said, “Mr. Geppert made us do it for class and it ended up being a really fun and enjoyable experience.” 

The annual fair brought together dozens of participants, each showcasing projects in fields such as biology, chemistry, engineering, and environmental science. Cape Henlopen students stood out for their creativity, preparation, and ability to connect their ideas to real-world issues. A variety of topics were represented by Cape students. Some projects focused on environmental concerns, including water quality and pollution, while others explored renewable energy solutions or tested scientific theories through hands-on experimentation. The project not only helped them win but also provided valuable experience for their futures. 

Geppert explained that participating in events like this can have long term benefits, saying, “It looks really good on college applications and for those types of careers”. Teachers from Cape Henlopen like Geppert played an important role, guiding students throughout the preparation process and encouraging them to pursue their ideas. Brenner Short said, “We got first place in the team category, it was really exciting, we got 100 bucks each.” The win was not only a personal accomplishment for the students but also a proud moment for Cape. 

Participation in events like the Sussex County Science Fair reflects Cape Henlopen High School’s commitment to academic excellence and student growth. By encouraging students to think critically and explore complex topics, the school helps prepare them for future opportunities in science and beyond. Overall, Cape Henlopen’s presence at the 2026 Sussex County Science Fair highlighted the talent, dedication, and curiosity of its students. As the event continues to grow each year, it provides an important platform for young scientists to share their ideas, gain experience, and inspire others in their community.
