Netflix viewers and critics are raving about Sabrina Carpenter’s successful new Christmas Special, A Nonsense Christmas. The program included Carpenter's original music, holiday tunes, musical guests, and even comedic skits. The special featured celebrity guests such as Tyla, Sean Astin, Shania Twain, Kyle Mooney, Kali Uchis, Nico Hiraga, Quinta Brunson, Cara Delevinge, and Chappell Roan.
Carpenter included a combination of comedic skits along with her singing, which fans appreciated. Cape Henlopen Sophomore Julia DiSabatino “really liked how it was an even mix between comedy, skits, and music.” She thought Sabrina also “did a good job at not making it boring by continuously making it funny.”
The sets had a retro, tiered stage, with background dancers and dramatic curtains. Throughout the special, you also got to see Sabrina “backstage,” in a vintage kitchen, and in multiple different living rooms where she performed both sketches and songs.
For Junior Rylie Cathcart, “the little details in the set made the holiday special unique.” She feels that “it definitely had a different vibe to it, but in the best way.” Fans agree, as the show has brought in 2.6 million views between its debut on Friday, Dec. 6 and Sunday, Dec. 8.
The Holiday Special ranked as Netflix’s No. 8 most-watched TV program during the week of Dec. 1, beating “Arcane” Season 2, which took ninth place on the list with 2.3 million views, and “The Later Daters,” which took the No. 10 slot with 1.8 million views. Senior at Cape Hailey Hassel was “surprised about how good it was” and thought “she did a good job incorporating music and comedic aspects.”
