Icon, Demi Lovato, is taking back their music with a new rock twist. On July 7, Lovato announced her latest album REVAMPED, saying, “Breathing new life into the songs that played such a huge role in my career allowed me to feel so much closer to my music than ever before.” Her latest album hit number one on the Billboard charts for #1 Top Rock Album and #1 Top Alternative Album. Since then Lovato has taken her many pop hits and turned them into a punk-rock classic.

Lovato dropped REVAMPED on September 15, opening the album with “Heart Attack,” one of her most streamed songs on all platforms. The song starts with the classic radioed chorus as the intro with massive guitar and drums, yet accompanies the arrangement very well. Lovato’s voice is so much more powerful and ‘confident’ in the “Heart Attack - Rock Version” that it takes the song to a whole new level. In “Confident - Rock Version” the song is taken up a notch with synthesizers and autotune, while at the same time, showcasing her ability to hit the high notes. Lovato then rolls right into one of their biggest hits, “Sorry Not Sorry,” featuring the artist, Slash. Keeping a very similar vocal tone to the classic pop hit, but adding more guitar solos, the song takes on more of the revenge theme written in the lyrics. “Cool for the Summer,” however, takes on more of the electronic energy, really making listeners feel ‘cool for the summer.’ With many more songs on the album, Lovato brings a new voice to her classic songs. Back in 2019, manager Scott “Scooter” Braun had many big name titles. During that time, he bought the rights to all of Taylor Swift’s music. Swift responded with a post on Tumblr. Swift wrote, “This is Scooter Braun, bullying me on social media when I was at my lowest point. He’s about to own all the music I’ve ever made.” Lovato, who had just joined Braun that May, took to Instagram defending him, stating “I have dealt with bad people in this industry and Scooter is not one of them.” This past summer, it was revealed that many of Braun’s big names had left him. This brought speculation that something bad was in the works related to Braun, and these artists did not want to be included in the narrative.
Lovato has been busy as ever since the release of REVAMPED, doing different collaborations with various brands and artists as well as answering questions from fans on TikTok. When asked about an old song that is now a new favorite, Lovato responded with “Neon Lights” saying, “I kind of got tired performing, and now I love performing it live again, because it just goes so hard.” With Lovato rising in popularity once again, she hopes that her rock versions can make hits in the discography just like the originals did once before.
