Staff Writer During the 2024-2025 season, the Cape High School swim team has performed exceptionally well to uphold their undefeated record, currently going 11-0. They display a passion and eagerness to secure their wins. Head Coach and Science teacher William Geppert, believes that the current state of the team and their record gives a good feel of what will happen at states on February 22.
Sophomore Isla Touw is on the Cape Swim Team. In preparation for states, she believes that practices are becoming harder, with coaches focusing more on little details. “Instead of just gaining yardage, we’re trying to fix our flip turns and make our strokes look prettier,” she says. Touw explains that they are taking more breaks and eating healthy to be as strong and prepared as possible.
Zoey Neufeld, a freshman on the team, swims the 100 breaststroke and the 500 freestyle. She balances her time between the Cape swim team and club swim. “The Coaches are super encouraging which helps before a race.” Neufeld works well with her team, noting that she is close with everyone, which ultimately strengthens their teamwork. She continues to prepare to finish the season strong as the team heads to states.
Another Freshman on the team, Addison Freebery, has some strategies of her own to share. She says the team stacks their relays, “especially in the freestyle relays we put our best swimmers in because that’s where we shine.” Freebery shows a knowledge and passion for her sport that lead to her success. “We’ve had a good season, it's been a fun journey.”
