The Cape Henlopen Unified Basketball team is a mixture of Consortium athletes with special needs and Cape Henlopen students who aim to support and empower every player from either school.

At Cape, Unified sports has been growing rapidly through the past few years, with neuro-typical partners gravitating towards the wholesome and creative minds of each athlete. First-year player, Aidan Wyatt, says that he joined so he could “lift up” these dedicated kids so they can “ball out to their best ability”.

Both physical and mental disabilities are represented on the team, making Cape one of the most diverse Unified teams throughout the state. With the Sussex Consortium and Cape uniting as one team, it consists of 31 total players.

Sophomore Brynne Fox states that she and her teammates are “all striving to make an inclusive and fun community.”

Coming off of an up-and-down season last year, the 2025 Unified team is coming into the new year with only positivity and confidence. A large number of players have graduated, making this upcoming season full of first year players. However, even with these adjustments head coach Coach Katie Collick claims that these new players “will bring even more talent and beneficial qualities to the team.”

Going into this new season, Cape needs to be well prepared to face top teams like Indian River and the former state champs, Dover High School. Freshman, Norman Rust, says the best way to get ready for these games is to “give it our all in practice” and “work on defensive and offensive” set-ups.
