Staff Writer Each year, Young at Art is held to offer creative students a spot to display their work. This art exhibition is offered by the Rehoboth Art League, taking place mid-March.
Throughout the years, the League has held a plethora of these different art showcases for a variety of unique art at their exhibitions, providing many opportunities for local artists. This exhibition has always been an opportunity for many art students to be able to share and display their work publically.
Regan Shellenberger, a former participant and current art student at Cape, came out of the exhibition grateful for the opportunity, “The experience was new, the first time having my art displayed somewhere other than school.”
Any student attending a Sussex County School is eligible to sign up and display their art in the exhibition. All forms of art are displayed here, including both 2D and 3D art. For outstanding work, the Rehoboth Art League awards students with cash prizes, scholarships, and a variety of awards for excellence.
Melissa Fitzgerald, the education director at the Rehoboth Art League, says, “This is the Rehoboth Art League’s most visited exhibition of the year. It’s a bright, colorful, fun show and there’s lots of awesome art to see.”
In the past, this event has been a very pleasant experience for students. Shellenberger states, “This opportunity gives students the chance for their artwork that they worked really hard on to be seen and recognized.”
Even if a participating student would not want to go into art, it can provide a positive experience with a piece critiqued and displayed publicly. “Art is meant to be shared,” Fitzgerald states.
The Young at Art exhibition will be taking place from March 15th, 2025 to March 30th, 2025 with a total of 34 participating schools throughout the county. Student artwork is chosen by students to be displayed at the exhibit; even when the exhibitions are over, the art remains showcased on their website.
