From November 21 to November 24, Cape Henlopen High School is performing the play Trap. Trap, written by Stephen Gregg, is a Mystery/Horror production that involves multiple layers of acting, publicity and costume to find out why every single person in a high school theater falls unconscious, all but one. Using interviews with witnesses, loved ones, first responders, and the investigators pursuing the case, a theater ensemble brings the story of the strange event to life with a documentary-style reenactment.

To prepare for the show, Junior Willow Demichele said, “We’ve been really trying to go all out in rehearsals. We do the blood-curdling screams and even the faux faints, it’s honestly super fun.”

Some actors, like Junior Kristina Needham, couldn’t even say what part they were acting as for the play.

The publicity for this play is being run by the student Dramaturgs. Sophomore Avery Deleon-Coleman is working as a Dramaturg for Trap and she states, “I really enjoy it [being a dramaturg] so far. I’m mostly taking pictures and just hanging out with the wonderful people in theater.”

The costume crew is led by Sophomore Ainsley Rineer and Senior Sienna Jacona. Due to Trap being a modern-set play, most of the actors have their costumes on their own, with the exception of some of the “flashback characters” as Junior Daphne Mock worded it.

The play is presented in a very mysterious and secretive publicity angle with the posters for the play starring phrases like “Don’t tell the secret” and “Come find out." All of the attraction for Trap seems to be “smoke and mirrors”, angling to persuade viewers to visit the theater based on anticipation.

The show will be performed on Thursday November 21, Friday November 22, Saturday November 23 at 7pm, and Sunday November 24 at 2pm. Trap Director Andros states, “The tickets are currently online. $8 for students, $13 for general admission - the price will increase at the door!”
