The We In Lewes podcast is, “a chance to get to know some of the amazing people around t

own who are helping shape a community soul as appealing as it is unique,” in the words of the host, Kevin McGuiness. McGuiness has been a local to Lewes, Delaware since 2015, the blend of interesting history dating back to the 1600s, multiple beaches and waterways, and the charming collection of people, are just a few of his favorite aspects of Lewes.

The idea of We In Lewes came to be on one casual afternoon at Kindle, a downtown Lewes restaurant since 2007, owned by Matt DiSabatino. “The combination of Kindle and their music had everyone in a happy, cordial mood, and it all reminded me that this was the very feeling that makes Lewes so appealing,” McGuiness stated. He was the one who proposed the idea of the podcast and tossed around creative ideas with DiSabatino, whom he met 15 years prior. “It was a very exciting meeting that really got me excited to help him because of my love for Lewes in general,” offered Disabatino. “Kindle basically became the recording studio because of the practicality of the space, availability, and that it has very good acoustics for recording.” Soon after, the We In Lewes podcast was born.

The podcast has been a communal effort. The men and women that make it come alive are; Kevin McGuiness (host and creator), Steve Esfandiari (engineer and editor), Matt DiSabatino (Kindle owner and guest recruiter), Gabby Pardocchi (overseas social media) with help from Brianna Kelly, The William Brothers (provide the music), and of course the outstanding guests that are interviewed. Since the very first episode on June 6, 2023, the podcast has grown and improved tremendously! “None of us had any experience with podcasts, so we had to learn on the fly … I think that we’re getting better at asking questions and gotten more comfortable with the equipment,” McGuiness commented.

A new episode is released twice a month, available on Spotify, Google Podcasts, Apple Music, and Amazon Music. Currently, there are a total of eight episodes available with more to come. Each episode contains a personal interview with an inspiring local. Some crowd favorite episodes include; episode two featuring Carole Short, Judy Melson, Nancy Moore, Sue Hall, and Patsy Carpenter, episode three featuring Chief Tom Spell, and episode six featuring Heidi Lowe.

In the end it all comes down to the question: Why Lewes? Because, “Lewes is a community made up of fantastic diverse people. We are very lucky to live and work in a town on the coast,” stated DiSabatino.
