Across the NFL, there are various star players that standout amongst the rest. These players support their teams through wins and losses, becoming fan favorites.
Jalen Hurts, a quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles, had a standout performance against the Bills on Sunday, November 26, with five total touchdowns in the game, one of the five touchdowns being in overtime, winning the game for the Eagles. Lifting his team to 10-1, this is the best record in the NFL so far this season. Sophomore Zach Mendez says, “I think the whole offense is built around him.” Hurts completed 18 of 31 passes for 200 yards, and an interception. He is the first quarterback in NFL history to rush for at least ten touchdowns in three back to back seasons. “Nobody I’ve played with that’s been more clutch down the stretch,” Jason Kelce, the #62 center for the Eagles, said in an interview about Jalen's play in overtime.
Travis Kelce, known as one of the best tight ends in NFL history, currently holds the Chiefs’ franchise record for the most career-receiving yards. Kelce also holds the NFL record for most overall seasons with 1,000 yards receiving by a tight end with seven. In the game against the LA Chargers, he tied his career high for receptions with 12 and had 179 receiving yards, the second-highest of his career. Playing against the Miami Dolphins, Kelce secured the Chiefs’ franchise record for most career receiving yards. “We are going to compete to the very end,” Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes said in an interview after being asked about Kelce and his relationship on and off the field.
Lamar Jackson, a quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens, has played extremely well this season so far. In Week 16 against the top-seeded 49ers, Jackson threw for 252 yards and two touchdowns; he also led Baltimore with 45 yards rushing for the Ravens to dominate 33-19. Jackson posted a perfect passer rating for the third time in his career in Week 17 against the Miami Dolphins. He completed 18 of 21 passes for 321 yards and five touchdown passes for another dominant 33-19 win against the Dolphins.
Heading into the playoffs, fourteen teams prepare to fight to make it to the Super Bowl Championship. These teams are: San Francisco 49ers, Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles, Baltimore Ravens, Detroit Lions, Miami Dolphins, Cleveland Browns, Los Angeles Rams, Kansas City Chiefs, Houston Texans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Buffalo Bills, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Green Bay Packers. Fans are eager to see what star players will lead their team to victory!
