Staff Writer Students involved in the Cape Music program took a 5-day trip to San Diego, California, during January. Students got to experience a variety of both musical and recreational activities on the West Coast, such as performing on the USS Midway, getting lessons with professional directors, and visiting the San Diego Zoo.
Jayden Wilson, a junior in both vocal and instrumental programs, says the trip was beneficial to him vocally. “Academically, I really learned how to control my voice when it comes to singing with a choir.” Wilson fondly remembers the quality time he spent with friends on the trip. “I really enjoyed being able to spend lots of time with my friends in [a] place that I’ve never gone to before.”
Along with learning new vocal techniques, chorale students had the opportunity to work with directors at the University of San Diego to refine and improve their skills.
Cape Junior Lucy Perdick says “how grateful [she is] that [she] got to go to the university of San Diego and getting to work with the choir teacher there.” She believes that the things she learned really helped her for their performance.
Students also had the opportunity to sing on the USS Midway.
Jaida Lagonigro, a junior involved in both Chorale and Wind Ensemble programs, says that this was a once in a lifetime opportunity. “The experience of singing on the USS Midway was so special, I don't think I'll get another opportunity like that for a while.”
According to staff and students alike, the trip was a big success. The Cape Music programs can expect to go into their 2027 trip to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, with a similar and exciting experience.
