Cape Henlopen High School welcomes new teachers and students every year. Mrs. Julia Seufert is a great new addition to Cape, especially for students who speak English as a secondary language. She is compassionate, goal driven, and cares deeply about her students.

Seufert, a MLL(Multi-Language Learners) teacher, is currently teaching students whose first language is not English and students with language barriers.

Seufert joined the high school after teaching at Frederick Thomas Middle School because there was an increasing need for teachers. She commented, “I really enjoy working with kids at various levels.” Seufert mentioned that she, “teaches children who do not understand English in their course material and tries to teach them English by using apps such as Duolingo.”

Mrs. Seufert loves her students and makes an effort to understand her students' perspectives. She hopes to learn from her students by seeing the adversity they face everyday. Seufert has been teaching since 2009, which she jokes “is almost as long as her current students have been alive.”

Outside of class, Seufert enjoys swimming, traveling internationally, and reading. She has been to 45 different countries, her favorites being Cuba, Egypt, and Thailand. She has even lived in other countries: Mauritania, Chile, Australia, and Honduras.

She wants students to know that she understands their struggles and connects with their perspective. English teacher, Tonya Karl, commented, “I love having Mrs. Seufert in the classroom. She is a great addition to our team.”

Seufert exclaims, “I am excited to meet new students. At Cape, there are nearly 170 multi-language learners, and I hope to meet them all.”
