Cape’s Social Studies department has been recently enlightened with a new teacher, Jessica Sandoval Castro. Castro is a recent graduate from Delaware Technical Community College with her Bachelor’s Degree in history education.
She has loved her experience at Cape so far. She explains, “My favorite thing about teaching at Cape is the students and building relationships with them.”
Her ability to relate to students makes students appreciate her as an educator and a person. She makes a strong effort in trying to build and maintain relationships with her students. One student, Baylie Anderson, found her teaching very refreshing, saying “She's very nice and her high energy is my favorite thing about being in her classroom.”
Castro cares about her students’ lives outside of the classroom. She hopes to see all of her students walk across the stage at graduation with the same confidence that she sees in her economics class. She makes herself available to assist her students when they are struggling with not only economics work, but also when they need help with other classes.
Castro remembers how much she enjoyed interactive lessons during her time in high school and hopes to give her students the same opportunities of fun learning that she had. Castro advises her students to live by her life-motto: “Be the change you want to see in the world.”
