James Gunn’s DCU

James Gunn has taken the comic space by storm ever since he took over the Detective Comics Universe (DCU). Gunn’s first project for the new DCU was his 2024 animated series “Creature Commandos.” After the success of the project, becoming the third-most-watched show on HBO Max, Gunn proved that he was the best shot for the new DCU to succeed. The animated series earned an impressive 22 million minutes of viewership in the first week of its premiere.

Gunn made his second hit in the DCU with the 2025 movie, “Superman.” It was a massive box office success, earning 615.3 million dollars. It was the first year that DCU beat Marvel in box office earnings.

Shortly after Superman, Gunn released the second season of “Peacemaker,” securing him his third DCU hit. After the inevitable success of the ongoing second season, fans are now left to wait for the upcoming 2026 live action show, “Lanterns.” “Lanterns” will feature actor Aaron Pierce as “Jon Stewart,” Kyle Chandler as “Hal Jordan,” and Nathan Fillion will return as “Guy Gardner.”  The story is set to follow Hal Jordan and Jon Stewart investigating a murder on earth. Another interesting casting is Ulrich Thomsen as “Sinestro,” a prominent villain in Green Lantern history.
